Language

I'm glad I'm learning a language and here's why:

"Britons' linguistic incompetence is not just a social embarrassment. It is through knowledge of language that we undertand foreign cultures. Only the English have derogatory terms for so many different nationalities. This is partly because our vision of Europeans is two-dimensional; our lack of interest in their language means we do not know or care how they perceive the world."

And I definitely think this statement stretches across the Irish sea too.
