-2 tablespoons oil
-1 large onion, sliced
-2 large carrots
-3-4 celery sticks
-175g/6oz turnips
-500g/1lb potatoes
-400g/ can of tomatoes
-750ml veg stock
-1 teaspoon paprika
-1 tablespoon tomato puree
-4 tablespoons finely chopped parsley
Dumplings
-50g butter
-125g self-raising flour
-2 tablespoons chopped parsley
-1/2 teaspoon dried thyme or marjoram
-1 egg lightly beaten
-Gently fly onion till soft in oil, then put chopped veg in.
-Cover tightly and cook on low heat for 5 minutes
-add other stuff (except dumpling stuff) bring to boil then simmer gently for 15-20 minutes
make up dumpling by rubbing the melted butter into the other ingredients until it resembles bread crumbs then add egg, it should go kinda doughy, if the consistency isnt doughy enough add small amount of water.
-drop dumplings in ball shaps into stew,
-cover and cook for another 20-30 minutes.
